The demand for pharmacy technicians is greater than ever. Prepare to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other health care settings working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. You will learn basic anatomy and physiology, disease states and pharmaceutical treatments, pharmacy terms and abbreviations, pharmacy laws and ethical practices, pharmacy calculations, basic pharmacology, sterile and non-sterile drug compounding, dose conversions, processing of prescriptions and medication orders, inventory control, medication error prevention strategies, workplace safety, and billing and reimbursement. After completing the course you will be prepared to sit for the PTCB exam. This class is offered live online. All e-textbooks are included in the fee. The instructor has taught OCER's in-person class for several years.
