Jewelry 101 Precious Metal Clay - Wednesday Evenings

Fine Art / Orange Art Center / Jewelry -
Spring/Summer 2024

All skill levels are welcome! Curious students are invited to explore the fascinating world of precious metal clay. This revolutionary product allows you to design using a moldable material made of microscopic particles of fine silver and an organic binder to form a moldable jewelry medium. Once your creation is dried, it is fired in a jewelry kiln; the organic binder burns off, and the silver particles sinter, leaving you with a solid metal piece! No prior silversmith skills are required; all are welcome! Learn about jewelry design and construction, and most importantly, have fun as you create. All skill levels are welcome. Adult evening courses are open to grades 10-12. Silver materials paid directly to the instructor are estimated at $65. No class on Wednesday, June 19 and Wednesday, July 3.

Terri Hickey

OAC Instructor

Terri is a Cleveland based jewelry artist, working in fine silver and glass enamel. Her artistic journey began as a young girl in Chicago, greatly influenced by her mother, an art teacher. She attended the University of Illinois earning a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design. She worked for several years developing and manufacturing clothing lines for such companies as Spiegel Catalog and Edison Brothers Stores. After a move to Cleveland with her husband she took some time at home with her three children. In 2007, wanting to expand her artist endeavors, she began taking classes in jewelry and metals at the Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her love of color and fascination with glass soon led her to start exploring enamels. Feeling like she had found her jewelry niche, she reached out and arranged to study with some of the enamel industries most prominent jewelry artists. The inspiration behind her jewelry comes from an appreciation of sophisticated clean lines, with minimal frill and maximum impact; streamlined, but never boring.

Terri participates in art shows in Ohio and Chicago and surrounding areas. Her work can be found in numerous Galleries in Ohio and New York. She has been a guest artist on the Cleveland area TV show, “Artists at Work” and was the featured artist in the February 2019 issue of Ohio Magazine. In 2019 she received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Jewelry at the Andersonville Art Festival in Chicago, IL. Terri also teaches silver classes, Metal Clay and Enamel classes, Viking Knit and Chain Maille at several Cleveland area venues.
