    Orange Community Education & Recreation has a variety of unpaid volunteer opportunities available for teens and adults of all ages. Whether volunteering to assist with summer camp, senior center activities or special events like Trunk or Treat, you'll have the opportunity to share your talents and gain valuable experience. Here is a short list of some of the amazing benefits you’ll receive! Gain confidence. Volunteering can help you gain confidence by giving you the chance to try something new and build a real sense of achievement. Make a difference. Volunteering can have a real and valuable positive effect on people, communities and society in general. Meet people and make friends. Volunteering can help you socialize and make new connections. Be part of your community. Volunteering can help you feel part of something outside your friends and family. Help others. Volunteering can help you make a real difference in the lives of others. Learn new skills. Volunteering can help you learn new skills, gain experience and sometimes even qualifications. Take on a challenge. Through volunteering you can challenge yourself to try something different, achieve personal goals, practice using your skills and discover hidden talents. Have fun! Most volunteers have a great time, regardless of why they do it. See below to learn a little more about each of our volunteer opportunities: Adaptive Recreation Volunteer- This rewarding experience allows you to work one on one with children or adults with special needs. Available year-round, various days/times. Lions Club Volunteer- Love kids? Volunteer your time after school to play games, assist with homework, play outside and do fun projects with Kindergarten - 5th graders. Available afternoons M - F during the school year. Book Buddies Volunteer- For Orange High School students only. Work with our youngest preschool crew to help them learn letter sounds/names, reading comprehension, rhyming and more! Available afternoons during the school year. Broadway Buddies Volunteer- Share your love of the theatre with our "stars" in our award winning adaptive theatre program. Available year-round, various days/times. Coach- Lead our young athletes in your favorite sport/s to develop skills, confidence, and teamwork throughout a season. Available afternoons and weekends year-round. Recreation Specialist Assistant- Assist our talented afterschool/weekend instructors in implementing a variety of fun sports, theatre, art, academic, or recreational activities. Available afternoons and weekends during the school year. OCER Commission Member- For those interested in serving as an appointed community member that advocates, promotes and gives feedback to OCER. Available as positions become vacant- meetings are once a month in the evening, year-round. Orange Early Childhood Parent Volunteer- For families with children enrolled in Orange Early Childhood. Everything from chaperoning field trips to planning events or assisting in the classroom. Available during the school year. Scorekeeper/Referee- This valuable volunteer helps us keep games for youth sports running smoothly. Available year-round, various days/times. Safety Town Volunteer- Help incoming Kindergarteners learn the basics of safety during an exciting one week program offered each summer. Event Volunteer- Love to mix and mingle in the community? Have a knack for planning? Join us to carry out some amazing events for our community. Available year-round, various days/times. Parent Production Team- The backbone of our Stagecrafters production- help our crew with anything from hair and make-up to donations and cast parties. Available twice a year during the weeks of Theatre Production. Summer Camp Volunteer- Help create fantastic memories for a new generation! Assist our staff with various camp activities, including crafts, swimming, sports, theatre, art and more. Available weekdays during the summer. Ski Club Volunteer- Love to ski and work with kids? Ski Club Volunteers assist us with keeping everyone safe and having fun! Available evenings/weekends during ski season.

  • 5th Annual Dip and Sip

    Enjoy the summer evening on our patio listening to the sounds from Murch and Spice. We will have a professional mixologist creating non-alcoholic beverages with fun summer flair. Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and a variety of dips. Sponsored by Solon Pointe & OSACA; please RSVP by July 28.
  • Adaptive Kayaking

    Kayaking is not only great for improving strength, flexibility, and overall health, but also provides people with a wonderful opportunity to safely explore areas of water on a delightful summer day! Join us as we team up with the Cleveland Metroparks to offer an adaptive kayaking opportunity. Participants will learn how to utilize a paddle to safely explore the water. Kayaking is known as a laid-back, easy-going, and fun summer activity that is approachable to all! All equipment will be provided. Drop off and pick up will both occur at Garfield Park Center located at 11350 Broadway Ave, Garfield Heights, OH 44125
  • Adult Learn to Swim

    This program is for those who have little to no swimming ability. Here we will conquer any fear of the water with our small class size that will provide ample time to practice. We will encourage learning at an individual pace and focus on floating, swimming on front and back and treading water.

  • An Afternoon at the Arcade

    Who is ready for an afternoon of gaming and fun?! We’ll be taking a bus from our facility down to Ohio City for fun and games at PINS Mechanical Arcade (located at 1880 W. 25th Street Cleveland, OH 44113) for classic arcade games, giant Jenga, pinball, bocce ball, and skeeball! From Pac-Man to Galaga, PINS offers a variety of unique activities that are accessible and fun! This is a great opportunity for participants to explore a new location, try new games, and enjoy time with friends! Bring quarters if you want to play pinball.. Transportation to and from Pepper Pike Learning Center will be provided. Please meet in the parking lot of the Pepper Pike Learning Center at 12 pm. Bring a brown bag lunch.
  • An Opportunity to Grow - Planting and its Impact

    Did you know that plants don’t only need water, soil, and sunlight to survive? They also need someone to take care of them. Join us for our very first planting program where participants will get the opportunity to learn about how to take care of plants and the impact plants have on our lives every day. Participants who sign up will get the opportunity to take part in potting their plants and will learn how to take care of their plants throughout their lives. This program not only teaches participants about the relaxation that planting can offer us but it teaches responsibility and patience within the process. Pots, seeds, plants, and soil will be provided to all participants. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to grow.
  • Art Sampler

    Did you know that art is everywhere we look? No matter what we look at, there is some sort of unique story and creation process that went along with it! We all have the opportunity to create in a way that is unique to us! We are so excited to introduce a collaboration we are taking part in with the Orange Art Center to offer an introductory Art Sampler. Art Sampler is the perfect opportunity to introduce any participant to a variety of different art forms. This 3 - week fine arts program will introduce participants to canvas painting, drawing, and clay modeling through a completely hands-on exploration experience. All classes will take place at the Orange Art Center.
  • Awesome Animals Camp

    Does your child love animals? Have them join us as we learn all about different types of animals, where they live, what they eat and what type of care they require. This one-of-a-kind experience will be filled with games, crafts, engaging activities, and even... meeting animals! Together we will learn about being responsible stewards, both for animals and the world around them while fostering understanding, respect, and empathy toward all living beings. *Lions Club Extended Care is not available for campers before, between or after Discovery Camps.
  • Ballet for Balance

    Learn the art and language of ballet to find balance and increase flexibility. This class will incorporate stretching to increase mobility in muscles and joints. Balance exercises will increase awareness of proper body alignment during movement. Please wear comfortable socks or ballet slippers. No previous experience required.
  • Barre Workout

    Barre is a fun, low impact, full body workout combining yoga, Pilates and ballet. Barre will lengthen muscle through micro movements that encourage balance, improve posture, muscle endurance and stability. Increase your energy, focus and breathe deep with this workout; your body will thank you!

    This class encompasses the fundamentals and techniques of Foil Fencing by focusing on the proper aspects of stretching, footwork, lunges, attack, bouting, tactics, strategy etiquette and sportsmanship. Education, safety and fun are key elements of the class. No experience is necessary and all fencing equipment is provided. Fencing is harder than you think, but with practice.     Designed for beginners, we will have you speaking and reading Spanish in no time. You will practice the basic building blocks of the language and common idiomatic expressions.     See Bluey on the big stage!!! When Dad feels like a little bit of Sunday afternoon time out, Bluey and Bingo have other plans! Join them as they pull out all of the games and cleverness at their disposal to get Dad off that bean bag. Note: There is no elevator for seating on the upper level.   • Brain, Body & Balance Yoga

    Never tried a yoga class? Do you have balance or mobility concerns? Have you had a joint replacement or surgery? No problem - this class is for you! This fun, compassionate class is customized for all ages and all abilities. Chair, standing and wall poses are used - no need to get on the floor.     Broadway Buddies: Adaptive Musical Theatre Camp

    Students with special needs work alongside theatre professionals, licensed staff and experienced volunteers. Each performer is paired with a buddy who assists in all day activities such as acting, dance, voice, arts and crafts, and daily swims. Students will present a free workshop production on the last day of camp for family and friends. Choreography adapted to individual needs. All abilities welcome! Everyone has an opportunity to shine.
  • Broadway Buddies: Dream Team

    Spend an entire week with your theatre friends participating in a variety of organized games, crafts, movies, and more. Participants must be currently enrolled in Stagecrafters Broadway Buddies Day Camp in order to be eligible. This Super Star experience has sleeping accommodations for two campers and two counselors in their very own quad. Each quad is complete with four separate bedrooms, kitchenette, lounge area, restroom and air conditioning! Experienced staff, volunteers and nurse on call.   • Buttercream Party

    Join Erin Urusko, creator of Buttercream Party, to make memories and delicious gourmet decorated cookies. Learn decorating tips and baking secrets to decorating cookies. Learn about icing consistency, flooding, writing, and how to decorate with multiple textures. In each class, you will decorate a dozen baked cookies too pretty to eat. Must pre-register
  • Cape Cod & Martha’s Vineyard

    Delight in New England’s coastal region on the 7-day, 6-night tour. Your adventure begins with a guided tour of Hyannis and Sandwich, where you will visit the JFK Museum and the JFK Memorial, and ending the day in the historic and quaint village of Sandwich. The next day you will embark on a ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard, where you will have some free time to explore and shop. Next, enjoy a guided tour of the Outer Cape, See the Eastham Windmill, the Cape Cod National Seashore, Race Point Visitor Center, and the Marconi Station area with its spectacular "ocean to bay" view across the entire cape. Then, you'll make a stop in colorful Provincetown - home to artists, great galleries, stores and boutiques. Next, you'll breathe in the sea air in Chatham with its panoramic views of the Atlantic and rustic barrier beaches. As you head back to Pepper Pike you will visit the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. The trip includes transportation, lodging, six breakfasts and four dinners. A $75 deposit will reserve your spot, with final payment due on July 28. Trip insurance is available.
  • Card Connection-the Big Reveal

    Begin a new card making project each month when you purchase a kit that includes a new “recipe” for a card layout. Using the “recipe” and all the ingredients included you can create four cards with the same layout yet different colors and designs. Pick up your kits the last week of each month and work on it at home or at the Orange ART bar. Must pre-register.
