Making an Investment in Your Mental Health

Senior Adult / Lectures -
Winter 2025

Approximately 20% of people 55 years or older experience some type of mental health concern. Around 14% of adults aged 60 and over live with a mental disorder. One in six older adults experience some form of abuse, physical, psychological, or related conditions. As people age, they may experience certain life changes that can affect their mental well-being, such as coping with a serious illness or losing a loved one, financial challenges or mobility limitations., memory loss, medication abuse/ misuse or other setbacks. Although many people will adjust to these life changes, some may experience feelings of grief, social isolation, or loneliness. When these or other age-related conditions persist, they can lead to

mental health conditions such as clinical depression and anxiety. The importance of mental health self-care is essential to reduce the potential risk factors associated with getting older and can make a significant difference in maintaining quality of life The impact of mental health issues often extend to family members, caregivers and countless others, as well This program will look at self-care approaches seniors can engage in to reduce stress, maintain a positive outlook, and minimize risks for potential behavioral health problems. The program will also address the type and range of resources available

and ways to access support when needed. The format will be open. interactive, encourage the exchange of ideas and provide an opportunity to conduct a personal self-care assessment.
