    Orange Community Education & Recreation has a variety of unpaid volunteer opportunities available for teens and adults of all ages. Whether volunteering to assist with summer camp, senior center activities or special events like Trunk or Treat, you'll have the opportunity to share your talents and gain valuable experience. Here is a short list of some of the amazing benefits you’ll receive! Gain confidence. Volunteering can help you gain confidence by giving you the chance to try something new and build a real sense of achievement. Make a difference. Volunteering can have a real and valuable positive effect on people, communities and society in general. Meet people and make friends. Volunteering can help you socialize and make new connections. Be part of your community. Volunteering can help you feel part of something outside your friends and family. Help others. Volunteering can help you make a real difference in the lives of others. Learn new skills. Volunteering can help you learn new skills, gain experience and sometimes even qualifications. Take on a challenge. Through volunteering you can challenge yourself to try something different, achieve personal goals, practice using your skills and discover hidden talents. Have fun! See below to learn a little more about each of our volunteer opportunities: Adaptive Recreation Volunteer- This rewarding experience allows you to work one on one with children or adults with special needs. Available year-round, various days/times. Lions Club Volunteer- Love kids? Volunteer your time after school to play games, assist with homework, play outside and do fun projects with Kindergarten - 5th graders. Available afternoons M - F during the school year. Book Buddies Volunteer- For Orange High School students only. Work with our youngest preschool crew to help them learn letter sounds/names, reading comprehension, rhyming and more! Available afternoons during the school year. Broadway Buddies Volunteer- Share your love of the theatre with our "stars" in our award winning adaptive theatre program. Available year-round, various days/times. Coach- Lead our young athletes in your favorite sport/s to develop skills, confidence, and teamwork throughout a season. Available afternoons and weekends year-round. Recreation Specialist Assistant- Assist our talented afterschool/weekend instructors in implementing a variety of fun sports, theatre, art, academic, or recreational activities. Available afternoons and weekends during the school year. OCER Commission Member- For those interested in serving as an appointed community member that advocates, promotes and gives feedback to OCER. Available as positions become vacant- meetings are once a month in the evening, year-round. Orange Early Childhood Parent Volunteer- For families with children enrolled in Orange Early Childhood. Everything from chaperoning field trips to planning events or assisting in the classroom. Available during the school year. Orange Senior Center Volunteer- A variety of opportunities to assist the Senior Center team and engage in the community. Available year-round, please reach out to the Senior Center directly if interested. Scorekeeper/Referee- This valuable volunteer helps us keep games for youth sports running smoothly. Available year-round, various days/times. Safety Town Volunteer- Help incoming Kindergarteners learn the basics of safety during an exciting one week program offered each summer. Event Volunteer- Love to mix and mingle in the community? Have a knack for planning? Join us to carry out some amazing events for our community. Available year-round, various days/times. Parent Production Team- The backbone of our Stagecrafters production- help our crew with anything from hair and make-up to donations and cast parties. Available twice a year during the weeks of Theatre Production. Summer Camp Volunteer- Help create fantastic memories for a new generation! Assist our staff with various camp activities, including crafts, swimming, sports, theatre, art and more. Available weekdays during the summer. Ski Club Volunteer- Love to ski and work with kids? Ski Club Volunteers assist us with keeping everyone safe and having fun! Available evenings/weekends during ski season.

  • 3D Paper Art - Sunday Mornings

    Paper isn’t just for drawing; transform it into a fun sculptural piece of art! In this exciting class, young artists will explore creating 3D forms out of paper to make interesting sculptural forms such as keychains, bookmarks, canvas art, and more! Learn all about paper folding techniques and let your imaginations soar! All supplies are provided.
  • ATA Martial Arts

    Taekwondo will offer your preschool child a strong foundation in essential character qualities such as courtesy, respect, and discipline. In addition, taekwondo will improve your child’s gross motor skills and enhance their ability to pay attention and follow directions. All classes are taught using safe, fun, and exciting methods. No class April 25.

  • Adaptive Safety Town

    Safety Town is a nationally recognized safety awareness and education program. Children will learn important safety basics including: fire safety, bus safety, water safety, pedestrian safety, poison safety, playground safety, and gun safety. This program will be adapted to a variety of special needs.
  • Adult Learn to Swim

    This program is for those who have little to no swimming ability. Here we will conquer any fear of the water with our small class size that will provide ample time to practice. We will encourage learning at an individual pace and focus on floating, swimming on front and back and treading water.

  • Afterschool Skills - Lions Lacrosse w/ Coach Dodson

    Skill Development Programs OCER intends to provide opportunities for youth athletes to improve their skill level in their sports of choice through programming with professional coaches and vendors. When participating in these programs, participants should expect an outcome of; skill development and ability improvements throughout its duration. There should be no competitive expectation. After-School Skills Classes New this season OCER will offer skill development sports classes after school. Moving away from the traditional organized play programs, after-school programs will now serve youth athletes to improve their skill. Programs will be led by professional coaches who will develop a curriculum to guide your athlete to growth. Lions Lacrosse with Coach Dodson - Girls Grades 2 - 5 Continue your growth in our fastest-growing sport with after-school lacrosse skills. Lacrosse sticks will be provided to participants. Dress appropriately for after-school class. ** Please be sure to mark your program in the school's Dismissal Manager on the day of the after school class your child is attending. Just simply put in the PM notes the sport your child is attending. This helps at dismissal time to ensure that everyone gets to where they need to be and we aren't holding up the buses. If your child will not be attending class that day please send an email to amintz@orangecsd.org letting her know. Pick-Up will be at the Moreland Elementary Cafe 2 entrance by the playground at 4:30 pm. We will walk the kids out to the sidewalk and you can just pull up and pick up your child. Participants will learn stick skills and floor hockey strategy before playing, light-sided games. Equipment will be provided ** Please be sure to mark your program in the school's Dismissal Manager on the day of the after school class your child is attending. Run The Show After School Basketball Skills - Boys & Girls Grades 2 - 5 A 6 week after-school basketball skills program directed by Run The Show. Students will work on improving basketball skills including ball handling, footwork, shooting, passing, finishing and learning basketball concepts. Competitions and games will be included as the program progresses. The focus of this program is to provide a convenient after-school opportunity for players interested in getting better at basketball and having fun. ** Please be sure to mark your program in the school's Dismissal Manager on the day of the after school class your child is attending.     We are all about the ABC's in this exciting class, sure to prepare your child for Kindergarten. Each child will explore the 26 letters of the alphabet and their sounds. Through exciting games, upbeat songs and engaging art activities, each child will develop and sharpen letter recognition and phonemic awareness skills.
  • Are You Yeti for Winter?

    Get “yeti” for winter with this great program! Kids will make their own yeti stuffed animal, watch the Disney Dreamworks movie Abominable, and eat some delicious “snowballs.”

Young artists will join their Orange Art Center teacher after school to participate in art projects that focus on creative techniques including painting, collage, illustration, and craft. Students will develop independent art-making choices while enjoying group and individual instruction and encouragement. Being an artist is an excellent way to end the day! All supplies included. No class November 25, November 26, and November 27.

    What TO do and what NOT to do. Helpful tips for a winning audition and what to expect when you walk through the door. Learn how to choose appropriate songs & monologues, create a theatre resume and be up to date with current headshot trends. Instructors will hold Mock Auditions and cold reads to prepare actors for last minute Director requests and prepare for the unexpected.
